Browser-side encryptionīrowser-side encryption makes possible to encrypt your data in the web interface of Research Drive, but this should be set up also at the client side and SURF can not currently support this. In this vault you can put your data that will be encrypted. Using Cryptomator you create an encrypted folder called a vault. There are also mobile clients for iOS and Android. The Cryptomator software is available for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. Rohos Disk Browser is a portable encryption tool that allows opening an encrypted partition and working with it (open or save any file).
If you want to manage the keys yourself and encrypt your files before uploading them there is a tool called Cryptomator that you can use. But that is server-side encryption where the keys are managed by the storage system.
The Research Drive backend storage system is encrypted.
