Ive got a frequency analyser and a bass microsynth that tracks the note that youre. The older MS and Bass MS demos by Peter Stroud from EHX are brilliant, and the settings work on the newer ones. teaser trailers, reddit forums and behind-the-scenes spots. If you have noise/dirt/fuzz outside your filter, then it will sound more like a normal guitar effect chain. the thing which really makes the MS sound like a synth is that the filter affects the internal sounds completely, just like a synth. Regarding running the MS with a fuzz pedal. Since the new ones run off a standard 9v plug, it's not wonky at all. I remember that I had to tweak the gate control trimmer on one which I picked up second hand to lengthen the decay, but otherwise I've had no issues. The newer one is capable of sounding the same. Since folks who have mentioned noise also mention wonky power requirements, I'm going to assume they're using the older big box. In this case, is it their chain, or if my chain helps damp potential noise, or that others are using the big box while the new one is quiet, and so on. Whenever I read about someone else finding something noisy, I wonder if they have a signal chain which is already at or past the tipping point for noise, and whether the new item is just part of a noisy chain. I don't find mine to be noisy, but I also took the time to eliminate all noise from my signal chain. In the long run I just ended up realizing that maybe I should leave the synth lines to the synth players and I’ll stick to my bass grooves.I currently own the newer MS and Bass MS, and have owned the older MS. I went through a phase for a few months of trying to recreate synth lines for bands like LCD Soundsystem and Tame Impala but ultimately I could get close enough to sounding like a real synth as I wanted. I found that sometimes it was a little too sensitive with some controls, gain being the one that comes to mind. The pedal features 10 slider controls for ultimate control with 4 independent mixable voices (bass, octave, sub-octave, and square wave or distortion), the Bass Micro Synthesizer Pedal lets you create those fat, vintage analog synth sounds. It is easy to use and the tracking is pretty good, although not perfect. The Bass Micro Synthesizer XO adds the great sounds of the early Moog synthesizers to your bass arsenal.

I have owned two of these pedals and ended up selling them both as I could not get the sound I was hoping for from them.ĭigitech Bass Synth Wah- it could make some really cool sounds, but it just was not very reliable in my experience. I've also heard of the MicroSynth being a beast, but it's pricey, so probably not in the cards unless I REALLY get a hankering to synth the shit out of my playing.

Another pedal with some great sounding options, plus the software to allow for more in depth customization seems pretty awesome. Then there's the Mark Bass Super Synth, a pedal I saw Mike Gordon talk about in a video about his rig. I've heard of poor tracking with it though, if anyone can confirm/deny. Expression pedal capability for filters/cut off is again a plus. I'm a bit concerned that it's a bit too digital sounding though I see many people say once you learn its in and outs it's fantastic (which a lot of people say about a lot of pedals). I've heard a lot of good things about the Boss Syb5 pedal, even hearing that Mike League of Snarky Puppy uses it which is enough brownie points to make me want it. I have seen more bad reviews than good reviews, though, one such problem being where the bass would only play one note when it was on. It's monophonic, which could be a downside, but from the demos it seems to have a nice variety and the ability to use an expression pedal is really nice. The first to catch my eye was the newer Electro-Harmonix Mono Synth bass pedal. I'll mention the pedals I've been looking at, though I'd love to hear everyone's experiences/preferences with these sorts of things whether it's about these pedals or another one entirely :) We have a decent range of sounds and styles, though there are a few funk/hip hop sorts of songs and sections I could see a synth sound on. So I've been considering buying a synth pedal for my bass, not only because of what it could do for my band but because of what it could allow me to create on my own.
